Elise McIntyre Honored as USCAA Co-Student-Athlete of the Year

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (November 10, 2017) – At the league's national honors banquet Thursday evening, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) awarded junior runner Elise McIntyre (Red Creek, NY / Red Creek) as its Women's Cross Country Co-Student-Athlete of the Year. McIntyre became the second straight Delhi harrier to win the national award, with men's runner Nicholas Arnecke receiving the honor last year.

McIntyre has been Delhi's second-top finisher in all but two races this season, with her highest placement coming at the Bronco Classic, finishing fourth with a time of 23:42.49. At the ACAA Championships, which Delhi hosted, McIntyre helped the Broncos to a second-place finish, earning first-team all-conference with a sixth-place finish at 27:39.9. The junior was recently named to the ACAA All-Academic Team, carrying a 3.85 GPA as an Architecture major.

The Red Creek, NY native can often be found volunteering in the community.  She has helped run a student fair for elementary students each fall for the last three years with a focus on anti-bullying campaigns and has volunteered at the campus's student softball tournament. She teaches jazz and ballet dance classes at a studio in town, teaches three private dance lessons and does four dance workshops on weekends throughout the year. The classes that she teaches reach beyond the end of the semesters she is in school, after which she drives the three hours back to town each time she has class to finish teaching the classes and to attend her students final recital. She spent a year serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Council, is an active member of the Architecture club on campus and serves as a team captain for the cross country team. McIntyre has continued to improve as an athlete in her three years, despite many late nights in the architecture lab, and has helped change the team's culture to one of excellence.
