LYNDONVILLE, Vt. (November 2, 2019) – As they learned to do over the course of the season, the SUNY Delhi women's cross country team made it truly a team effort to win their first NAC team championship on a sunny Saturday at Northern Vermont Lyndon. The Broncos hit the top mark in the 5K competition with 29 points, as four runners earned First Team All-NAC status and another earning Second Team.

Delhi lived up to its number-one ranking in the NAC's Pre-Championship Coaches Poll by finishing 19 points ahead of second-place Husson, who boasted five runners in the top 14. Saturday's victory gave the Broncos their third NCAA conference championship in four years, having won the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) title in 2016 and 2018.

Maine Farmington's Katie LeBlanc finished the 5K race first at 22:06.4 for the league individual title, while Lyndon's Zosia Prince took second at 22:59.4. Delhi took over the leaderboard from then on, grabbing the next four spots. Freshman Sophie Stewart was the Broncos' first finisher, taking third at 23:38.3. Arielle Moheimani placed fourth at 23:50.3, while Katerina Salcedo earned fifth at 24:08.6 and Shyanne Lawton sixth at 24:14.0. Mersadie Dibbell rounded out the team scoring, placing 11th with a time of 24:48.3. Jillian Hernandez and Mary Lyons anchored the team, as Hernandez finished 18 at 26:17.9 and Lyons 19th at 26:27.5.

"The women ran their most complete race of the season," said head coach Robb Munro. "They put the race in a stranglehold right at the start and never gave control back. They all ran great, but especially in the three and four spots with Salcedo and Lawton."

Stewart, a four-time NAC Rookie of the Week this season, proved why she was a multiple-time recipient of the honor, finishing first among rookie runners. She, along with Moheimani, Salcedo, and Lawton, earned First Team All-NAC, while Dibbell's championship-clinching efforts gave her Second Team honors.

Maine Farmington finished third overall with 68 points. Northern Vermont Lyndon scored 124 for a fourth-place finish, followed by UMaine-Presque Isle (132) in fifth, Northern Vermont-Johnson (144) in sixth, and SUNY Canton (184) in seventh. Thomas and Maine Maritime had individual runners in the race, but did not achieve team scores.

With a conference title in hand, the ladies will take the week to prepare for their highest honor, competing at the USCAA National Championships. The 6K race will take place Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Virginia Beach, Va.
