Broncos Lose Five-Set Heartbreaker to Bard

DELHI, N.Y. (October 13, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team saw both a 2-1 set lead and a 13-11 lead in the fifth set vanish as they suffered heartbreaking five-set defeat to Bard. The loss marked Delhi's second straight, as they go into the weekend with a 7-6 record.

The Broncos snagged a close first set by a 25-22 score before the Raptors answered with a 25-18 win in the second game. Delhi appeared to have momentum on its side after a commanding 25-14 win in set three, but Bard answered back to force a tiebreaking set off a 25-21 set-four victory. Behind, 10-7, the Broncos answered back with six of the next seven for a 13-11 lead, but that's where their scoring ended. The Raptors swooped in to get the next three points to claim match point. After a Delhi timeout, Bard clinched the contest on a service ace.

Freshman Lexi Taylor led the Broncos with 14 kills and tied for the team lead with three service aces. She also had 15 digs and one block assist. Witchney Clersainville totaled nine kills with four blocks, including two solo. Erica Prindle led with 29 assists, adding six kills, nine digs and five total blocks, including two solo. Libero Shelby Nolan tallied a team-best 26 digs, as Taylor Tsatsis charted six kills, seven assists and eight digs. Bard held a 50-46 lead in total kills and posted a .138 save percentage to Delhi's .110. The Broncos held a 10-8 advantage in service aces and a 80-71 lead in digs.

The defeat gives Delhi it's first night home loss as they are 4-3 overall this season in Floyd L. Maines Arena. Head coach Beau Bracchy's team heads to Cazenovia for their next match on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
