DELHI, N.Y. (September 26, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team overcame some early obstacles to defeat Mitchell, 3-1, in a home contest Thursday night. After dropping the first set, 25-17, and posting a negative kill percentage, the Broncos charged on to win the next three close sets, improving to 7-4.

Mitchell handily won the first set in what would prove to be the biggest margin of victory on the night at 25-17. After that rough first set in which Delhi had seven kills and eight errors for a -.030 kill percentage, the Broncos turned it around entering set two to go up, 16-11. But after seven straight Mariners points put them behind at 18-16, the Broncos answered back to lead, 24-23, Mitchell was not quite done, inching ahead with the next two points to swing set point in its favor at 25-24. The Broncos remained composed, snagging the next three points on kills by Witchney Clersainville and Taylor Tsatsis, and capped with a service ace by Erica Prindle.

The Broncos held the lead for most of the third set, albeit by no more than four points, to win the game by a 25-22 score. But the ladies found themselves in dangerous waters in set four, with the Mariners threatening a deciding set ahead, 17-11. An ensuing Mitchell service error opened the door for a Delhi comeback, as the Broncos got the next five points to tie it up at 17-17. They would fall behind again, however, on four straight points by the Mariners to trail 21-17. Yet once again, Delhi remained focused to earn eight of final nine points to call match with the 25-22 win.

Delhi and Mitchell finished tied in both total kills and digs with 51 and 103, respectively. The Broncos held a slim lead in service aces with eight to the Mariners' seven. Clersainville totaled a career-best 20 kills, as well as three total blocks, including one solo. Lexi Taylor earned ten kills with a team-high 25 digs, while Chloe Elsenbeck had eight kills with 21 digs and two service aces. Prindle earned 37 assists, while adding 14 digs, two kills, and three total blocks with one solo. Tsatsis finished with seven kills, 13 digs and two service aces, while libero Shelby Nolan collected 23 digs.

The victory ended a three-match losing streak for the Broncos. They have the weekend to enjoy their triumph, but it's back to work on Tuesday at Clarks Summit, beginning at 7:00 p.m. They then are back home hosting Bard on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
