UTICA, N.Y. (September 10, 2018) – While the SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team already has a comeback victory to their credit this season, they overcame their first two-set deficit Monday with a thrilling five-set nail-biting win at Utica. The Pioneers swiftly grabbed the first two sets by matching 25-18 scores. Then the Broncos shifted gears and rallied to take sets three and four, 25-15 and 25-21, and came out on top in the fifth-set, 15-13. Head coach Beau Bracchy's squad are now 5-1, continuing their best start since 2015.

Perhaps Delhi's first closest threat of defeat came in set four, when five straight Utica points catapulted the Pioneers to a 19-14 lead, then 20-15 after both sides exchanged points. A service error by UC shifted possession, and what turned out to be momentum, to the Broncos' favor. Delhi captured the next seven points and ten of the next 11 to force a fifth set.

The Broncos took the momentum into the tiebreaking game, grabbing the first three points. That would be their largest lead of the set, however, as both sides battled neck-and-neck from then on, with the Pioneers eventually holding a 12-10 advantage. After a timeout by Delhi, the Broncos regrouped and swiped five of the next six points to seal the comeback.

Kristen Maslanka led the match with 15 kills, while gathering 17 digs. Taylor Tsatsis performed great in nearly every aspect with 13 kills, 18 assists, ten digs and four service aces. Caitlyn Curcurito tallied 12 kills and 17 digs. Erica Prindle led with 29 assists and 22 digs, while Shelby Nolan accounted for 21 digs.

Bracchy and the Broncos look for their third straight win on Wednesday when they travel to Southern Vermont on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
