Volleyball Takes Two out of Three as Host of Bronco Quad Match

DELHI, N.Y. (October 21, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team played host to a quad match on Saturday, welcoming Pratt, Fisher and Culinary to Floyd L. Maines Arena. The Broncos, who are now 8-17, took two out of three on the day, sweeping Pratt, 3-0, and downing Culinary by a 3-1 score.

Junior outside hitter Kristen Maslanka, who is Delhi's career kills leader, added 27 kills to her total at day's end to lead the Broncos. Setter Emma King totaled 67 digs on the day, while libero Kyoko Shimizu had 59 digs.

The festivities Saturday ended a busy week for the Broncos, in which they played five matches over a five-day span. Delhi has one more regular-season contest, a road meeting with Cazenovia on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., before they get ready to host the NIAC Championship on Saturday, October 28.

SUNY DELHI 3, PRATT 0

Opening their day against Pratt, the first set was tied at 15-15 before the Broncos took ten of the next 13 points. Delhi proceeded to win the next two sets by 25-11 and 25-13 scores. Kristen Maslanka led the way with six kills, with Sarah Clapper right behind her with five kills. Setter Emma King finished with a match-high 18 assists, while Taylor Tsatsis led the team with nine digs and libero Kyoko Shimizu totaling eight digs. Tsatsis also led the team with five service aces as Delhi totaled ten for the contest.

FISHER 3, DELHI 1

Each of the first three sets were close contests, with both sides totaling at least 20 points in those frames. Delhi held a 23-20 first-set lead, but Fisher would come back to win the set, 26-24. The Broncos came back with a 25-22 second-set victory, while the Falcons grabbed set three, 25-21, and set four, 25-15. Taylor Tsatsis set a new season high with 11 kills, racking up a .259 kill percentage for the contest, with Kristen Maslanka gathering eight kills and ten digs. Kyoko Shimizu also had a season high with 37 digs, while Emma King finished with 19 assists and 11 digs. The Broncos, who totaled 28 digs for the contest, were ultimately undone by 52 kills from Fisher, including 21 kills by Cynthia Huerta and 12 from Govanna Rosado.

DELHI 3, CULINARY 1

The Broncos ran away with the first set, 25-9. After Culinary evened the match with a 25-22 second-set win, Delhi answered with 25-17 and 25-10 set victories. Kristen Maslanka and Taylor Tsatsis were again at the top of Delhi's kill chart, with a baker's dozen from Maslanka and eight from Tsatsis. The Broncos had 71 digs for the contest, with Kyoko Shimizu leading the way with 14, Ashley Hintz and Maslanka totaling 13 and Madison Saleman earning 12. Emma King turned in 30 assists for the match. Tsatsis finished with five service aces, while Saleman had four.
