Maslanka Breaks Career Kills Record as Broncos Split at Utica Invitational

UTICA, N.Y. (October 14, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at Saturday's Utica College Invitational. The Broncos opened the competition sweeping Bryn Mawr by 25-13, 25-18 and 25-19 scores, and fell in close straight sets to Utica by 25-15, 25-23 and 25-22 ledgers.

The day was highlighted by junior Kristen Maslanka passing Kelsey Pratt to become SUNY Delhi's all-time career kills leader with 522. Maslanka broke the record with her fourth kill of the Bryn Mawr match, with the previous record being 509. "Maz" was Delhi's team leader in kills for both matches, with nine against the Owls and finishing tied with Sarah Clapper and Haylee Lefebvre for seven against the Pioneers.

Against Bryn Mawr, Sarah Clapper and Taylor Tsatsis each had seven kills, with Tsatsis posting a resounding .462 kill mark, committing only one attack error. Kyoko Shimizu led the match with 17 digs, while Madison Saleman had 11 digs. Emma King had 30 assists, while Ashley Hintz gathered a team-best four of Delhi's 12 service aces. Maslanka and Shimizu each had three service aces.

The Broncos battled the Pioneers in close sets that could have gone either way. The Broncos began the first set with a 9-3 lead, and in both the second and third sets, Delhi was the first to reach 20 points. Delhi finished with more kills than Utica, 33-29, but posted a .090 kill percentage to the Pioneers' .161. King led the match with 29 assists, with Shimizu tying for the match lead with 14. Tsatsis also tied for the match lead with three service aces, while Regan Hubner added six kills. Maslanka and Saleman each had nine digs.
