Broncos Sweep St. Joseph to Begin NIAC Season

DELHI, N.Y. (September 13, 2017) – After rallying to win a back-and-forth first set, the SUNY Delhi volleyball team charged on to take the next two sets, each by 25-18 scores, to claim a 3-0 win over College of St. Joseph in their NIAC opener. The Broncos improve to 1-5, while the Fighting Saints dropped to 1-4.

CSJ held a 22-17 lead in the opening set, and looked poise to claim the early lead. That was before the Broncos strung together six straight points to lead, 23-22. Both sides exchanged points to tie the score at 25-25, until back-to-back kills by Kristen Maslanka and Haylee Lefebvre clinched the set win for Delhi. Backed by a team-high ten kills by Maslanka, 16 digs by Mikayla Catherman and a combined 24 assists from Emma King (14) and Kyoko Shimizu (10), Delhi cruised the rest of the way to claim sets two and three for the sweep. Taylor Tsatsis finished second on the team with six kills, while Madison Saleman added four kills and eight digs. Maslanka also registered nine digs and had a match-high four service aces.
