Women's Tennis Falls to Husson, Thomas in First NAC Weekend

DELHI, N.Y. (September 8, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's tennis team opened their NAC season this weekend with home matches versus Husson on Saturday and Thomas on Sunday. The Broncos were defeated by the Eagles, 9-0, and fell to the Terriers by a 6-3 score. The Broncos, currently 0-3, continue their season with another home match against Sage on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

HUSSON 9, DELHI 0

The visiting Eagles breezed to 8-1 victories at two and three doubles, and an 8-2 win at one doubles. Delhi was shut out at one singles and four singles. The closest match was at five singles, where Madison Saleman fell, 6-3, in the first set against Nicci Munroe before falling in the latter set by a 6-0 ledger.

THOMAS 6, DELHI 3

Several of Sunday's matches were tight, a few of which fell in Thomas' favor to decide the match. At one doubles, the Delhi tandem of Hailey Gundersen and Jessica Biller trailed Alexis Nestor and Megan Williams by just 5-4, but the Terriers landed three of the next four points for an 8-5 win. Madison Saleman and Susan Hoskins defeated Makayla Guerette and Abigail Stevens at three singles, 8-2. The two team of Mackenzie Landman and Makalia Bean fell in their two doubles match, 8-3.

Saleman collected her second win of the day at four singles versus Cassidy Hamm, 6-1 and 6-0. Biller also won her three singles contest against Taylor Davis, 6-1 and 6-3, which wound up being Delhi's last win of the day. Thomas picked up wins at one and five singles by matching 6-4 and 6-1 scores, including a first-set rally in the latter after trailing, 4-1. A two singles win by 6-1 and 6-0 scores and a victory at six, 6-2 and 6-1, accounted for Thomas' remaining wins.
