Safiyyah Muhammad Wins Doubles, Singles Matches Against Utica

DELHI, N.Y. (September 20, 2017) – Safiyyah Muhammad picked up a pair of wins against visiting Utica Wednesday evening, where the Pioneers posted a 7-2 win. Muhammad won at number-one doubles with Victoria Jones, logged an 8-2 victory over Sara Gribanoff and Shannon Fillmore. Muhammad then went on to overcome a 6-4 defeat in the first set to beat Julianna Pieros at two singles. She won set two, 6-2, then won the tiebreaker, 11-9.

Reika Kumasaki battled Fillmore to three sets in the fourth singles spot, as did Mackenzie Landman against Bianca Bockhaus in six singles. Kumasaki bounced back from a 6-3 set one defeat to take two by a 6-3 score, only to see Fillmore win the deciding set, 6-3. Landman dropped set one, 6-2, but beat out Bockhaus in the seven-set tiebreaker to claim set two, 7-6 (3). Fillmore won the third set by a 6-2 score.
