
Johnson, VT - The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team dropped their first conference match 2-0 to Vermont St. Johnson on Sunday.
The match marked the start of conference play; both teams came into the game highly regarded, with Johnson ranked No. 1 and Delhi ranked No. 2 in the preseason polls for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) west division. In the first half of action, Johnson appeared to be on top of Delhi, outshooting the Broncos 10 to 3. 10 minutes before the break, Sloan McLain would record her first goal of the year on a shot from distance to put Johnson up 1-0 heading into the half.
Delhi was able to shift the momentum in the second half, holding Johnson to only two shots while recording 10 of their own. However, Delhi would be unable to find the back of the net, while with one of their two shots, Johnson would extend their lead on a goal from Jenna Jones, assisted by Olivia Davis. The score would remain with Johnson capturing the 2-0 victory to start conference play.
The Broncos move to 4-4, 0-1 in conference play and will next play Pratt away on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4:00 p.m.
