CASTINE, Me. (November 8, 2019) – Like the sun at kickoff, the 2019 season set on the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team in Friday's NAC Semifinals matchup against top-seed Maine Maritime. A 51st-minute goal by Mariner Eryn Doiron was the only offense in a 1-0 contest. The Broncos, who entered the NAC Tournament as the fourth seed and made it to the final four after a 5-0 conference quarterfinals win over SUNY Canton on Sunday, finished the season at 9-7-2.

Both defenses battled it out all evening to keep the game close, though Maine Maritime appeared to have many scoring chances to start with a 10-3 first-half lead in shots. Several close calls and five opening-half saves from goalkeeper Rachael Scoones kept the Mariners off the board as both teams went to halftime with no score. But MMA broke through in the 51st minute when NAC Player of the Year Doiron scored after a cross from Laura Blue set the hosts up with a one-goal lead. They nearly made it a two-goal lead moments later, but was called back for offsides. The Broncos fell victim to a similar scenario late in the game, as what appeared to be an equalizer from sophomore Kelsey Innes with roughly seven minutes left was waved off when it was determined a Delhi foul occurred prior to the shot.

Scoones finished with seven saves as she finished her sophomore campaign with a 5-6 record, two shutouts, 1.91 goals allowed average and .806 save percentage. Her career numbers put her with a 12-10 record, five shutouts, 1.63 goals allowed average and .809 save percentage.

Entering the NAC Tournament as the fourth seed, head coach Lauren Mackay's women finished one spot above their number-five ranking in the NAC Preseason Poll after a roller coaster regular season. Their first year as NAC members started with the highest of hopes at 4-0-1. But five defeats over their next six games put the Broncos near the .500 mark, which they countered by going 3-1-1 to close out the year. Delhi played a total of seven overtime games this season, where they went 2-3-2. Interestingly enough, the Broncos took the top three NAC seeds to overtime, tying Husson by a 1-1 score on Oct. 13 and coming up just short to Maine Maritime and Maine Farmington. The Mariners took a 3-2 double-overtime decision on Sept. 21, while the Beavers won, 2-1, in the 95th minute on Oct. 5. The Broncos received four All-NAC selections, with Innes and sophomore defender Olivia Curry named to the First Team, and sophomore forward Alexa Scaglione and freshman forward Micayla Slattery to the Second Team.

Maine Maritime moves on to host three-seed Maine Farmington the NAC Championship on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The Beavers won their Friday-evening semifinals match versus two-seed Husson with a 2-1 overtime victory.
