Four Earn All-NAC as Women's Soccer Heads to Weekend's NAC Championship

WATERVILLE, Me. (November 6, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team enters this weekend's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Final Four boasting four All-NAC selections as the conference unveiled its all-league team. After a commanding 5-0 win in their conference quarterfinals match Sunday against fifth-seed SUNY Canton, fourth-seeded Delhi heads to Maine Maritime to face the top seed and host Mariners in the league semifinals, set for Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Sophomore defender Olivia Curry (Farmingdale, NY / Farmingdale) and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Innes (North Babylon, NY / North Babylon) were named to the First Team. Sophomore forward Alexa Scaglione (North Babylon, NY / North Babylon) and freshman forward Micayla Slattery (Averill Park, NY / Averill Park) received Second Team honors. Senior midfielder Sam Acuna (South Kortright, NY / South Kortright) earned a spot on the Sportsmanship Team.

Head coach Lauren Mackay's women put on a dominating second-half performance to win Sunday's NAC Quarterfinals match versus SUNY Canton, scoring all five of their goals in the latter period for a 5-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, Delhi caught fire to begin the second, netting four scores within 12 minutes. Innes scored two goals with one assist, while Curry delivered a highlight-reel goal from roughly 20 yards out to the top right corner. Slattery had one assist. The victor of Friday's semifinals match will play the winner of Friday night's game of two-seed Husson and three-seed Maine Farmington for the NAC championship on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. All these weekend's games will be held at Maine Maritime in Casterline, Me.

Innes and Curry received First Team All-Conference honors for the second straight year, having been named to the top team by the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) their rookie seasons in 2018. Innes leads the Broncos in scoring this season and ranks third in the NAC with 37 points. She is tied with Alexa DuBois for the team lead with 15 goals, ranking third in the conference. The Long Island native posted three hat tricks on the year, and was a NAC Athlete of the Week. Curry led a defensive unit that allowed just 34 goals this season and posted four shutouts. "Olivia is our strength and organization from the back line," said Coach Mackay. "She wins balls in the air, can challenge attackers in a one-on-one, and go shoulder to shoulder with most players in a foot race. She reads the game well and plays possession out of the back helping to create an organized attack."

Scaglione is third on Delhi with 22 points on eight goals and six assists, netting a pair of two-goal games and a pair of two-assist games. Slattery leads the team and ranks second in the conference with nine assists, while racking up four goals for 17 points on the year. She was named NAC Rookie of the Week.

As the four seed, the Broncos finished one spot above their number-five ranking in the NAC Preseason Poll after a roller coaster regular season. Their first year as NAC members started with the highest of hopes at 4-0-1. But five defeats over their next six games put the Broncos near the .500 mark, which they countered by going 3-1-1 to close out the year. Delhi played a total of seven overtime games this season, where they went 2-3-2. Interestingly enough, the Broncos took each of the remaining NAC title contenders to overtime, tying Husson by a 1-1 score on Oct. 13 and coming up just short to Maine Maritime and Maine Farmington. The Mariners took a 3-2 double-overtime decision on Sept. 21, while the Beavers won, 2-1, in the 95th minute on Oct. 5.
