WATERVILLE, Me. (October 19, 2019) – Overtime may have become familiar territory for the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team this season, but nothing could compare to Saturday's crucial 2-1 NAC overtime road win at Thomas. Scoreless at halftime, an Alexa Scaglione goal in the 56th minute was met with a Terriers equalizer in minute 71 that sent head coach Lauren Mackay's team to their seventh overtime match of 2019. Alexa DuBois scored the game-winner in the 93rd minute to put Delhi in the mix for one of the top seeds for the NAC Tournament with a 4-2-1 conference record and 7-5-2 overall ledger.

With one more conference game at Northern Vermont Lyndon next Saturday, the win over the Terriers puts the playoff-bound Broncos in third place in the NAC standings, behind first-place Maine Maritime (6-0 NAC) and second-place Husson (4-1-1 NAC). Delhi took both teams to overtime, where they came up short to MMA and tied with Husson. Thomas moved down to fourth place with a 3-2-1 league mark.

Both sides played to a scoreless opening half before each team exchanged scores in the second. Scaglione was set up by DuBois to connect on her seventh goal of the season to put the Broncos up, 1-0, at 55:00. Any hopes for a one-goal victory were challenged by the host Terriers, as Katherine Hoving tied the match on an assist from Anna Chadwick at 70:45. Goalkeeper Rachael Scoones remained focused as she finished with a six-save day.

As regulation wound down, reality set in quick on the Broncos' sideline that their seventh overtime appearance over the course of a 14-game season could be the most crucial to this point of their campaign. Entering Saturday, Delhi was 1-3-2 in its previous overtime matchups, including 0-2-1 against NAC foes. Almost as quick as the extended period began, DuBois overturned these fortunes for Delhi with one swing of the leg, connecting for the game-winner at 92:14 off an assist by former high school teammate Brianna Laing.

"Today was an important win," said Coach Mackay. "The focus was on doing the little things right and with a team effort we got the result we needed. Thomas never stopped working and they created dangerous opportunities. Fortunately, we were able to take care of business shortly in to the first overtime to get 3 points on the weekend. The team is watching the NAC standings closely and looking forward to the upcoming games which will determine post season play."

DuBois is now tied with Kelsey Innes for the team lead with 12 goals, as both rank second in the NAC. DuBois is also second on Delhi and third in the NAC with 28 points, as Innes leads the squad with 30 points for second in the NAC. Scaglione is third on the team with both 18 points and seven goals. Scoones improved to 3-5 on the season.

The six-seed NAC Tournament has the top two seeds earning a first-round bye, with seeds three through six squaring off in the league quarterfinals the weekend of Nov. 2-3, hosted by the third and fourth seed. The winners will head to the number-one seed for the NAC Final Four the weekend of Nov. 9-10.

The women have two more matches this regular season. They head to Alfred University for a non-conference road meeting Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., followed by their finale at NAC-foe Northern Vermont Lyndon next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
