ELMIRA, N.Y. (September 4, 2019) – The great start to the season continued for the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team on Wednesday Elmira, though it didn't come easy. The Broncos' 2-0 halftime lead quickly vanished with two straight Soaring Eagles second-half scores. The two teams exchanged goals prior to the end of regulation, forcing overtime. With 17.5 seconds remaining in double overtime, Sam Acuna headed a pass from Sarah Mojica through a crowded box that just crossed the goal line in the top right corner for a 4-3 victory. Delhi improved to 2-0-1 on the season.

Delhi got two on the board right away in the first half, with Alexa Scaglione starting things off by scoring from 25 yards down the left side at 3:59. Alexa DuBois got the next score when she received a feed from Kelsey Innes on a through ball that find the right side to put the Broncos up by two at the half. Any good vibes experienced in the first half were tested after the Soaring Eagles connected for two straight to tie the game. Taylor Keane got the first at 48:55, while Zoya Katta knotted things up at 59:32.

Innes got the Broncos back out in front at 75:34, when she shook off a defender and scored from inside the box. But once again, Elmira raced back to tie things up. A free kick just outside the 18 from Hailey Boris was on the mark, bounced off goalkeeper Jessica Shultis, and was collected by Keane to tally her second score of the day and force overtime. A total of nine shots were recorded over both overtime periods, with Delhi claiming seven of them. The final one from Acuna proved to be the dagger.

Rachael Scoones started the game in goal for Delhi, picking up five saves before giving way to Shultis early in the second half. Shultis logged three saves as she moved to 1-0-1 on the season. Innes boosted her team-leading scoring numbers to nine points on four goals and one assist. DuBois added to her numbers to rank second with seven points on three goals and one assist.

Wednesday's matchup carried a somewhat similar storyline to both teams' matchup in 2018, where the Broncos won with little time remaining in double overtime. Delhi is now 2-0 in the all-time series with Elmira dating back to 2015.

Head coach Lauren Mackay and the Broncos have the rest of the week to enjoy their victory before returning to action at Keystone on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. They then begin their NAC season at Northern Vermont Johnson on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
