Women's Soccer Slotted Fifth in NAC Preseason Poll

WATERVILLE, Me. (August 27, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team begins their first season in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) with a number-five ranking in the conference's preseason poll. Delhi received 41 points. The poll, released today, was voted on by the NAC head coaches.

The Broncos enter their third season under head coach Lauren Mackay. The team posted an 11-4 record in 2018, an eight-match improvement from the year prior. They won their first nine matches and reached the ACAA Semifinals. Delhi returns two USCAA All-Americans in sophomore Kelsey Innes and Olivia Curry. Innes, a forward, led the Broncos last season with 30 points, 12 goals and six assists, including one-game winning overtime goal. Curry played a pivotal role in Delhi's defense that gave up just 18 goals all season with five shutouts. Curry and seniors Sydney Tuysuzian and Sam Acuna are this year's team captains.

Maine Maritime topped the poll with 77 points and six first-place votes. Thomas ranked second with 67 points, while last year's league champion Maine Farmington was third with 64 points and two first-place votes. Husson earned fourth with 61 points, acquiring the remaining first-place vote. SUNY Canton finished sixth with 35 points, with Northern Vermont Johnson seventh with 27 points, Maine Presque Isle eighth with 17 points and Northern Vermont Lyndon ninth with 16 points.

Coach Mackay's squad opens their season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Alfred State, followed by their home opener against SUNY Poly on Sunday, Sept. 1. The Broncos are then on the road for three straight contests, starting with Elmira on Wednesday, Sept. 4, Keystone on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and their NAC opener with Northern Vermont Johnson on Saturday, Sept. 14. Delhi is then back home for five straight contests. It all starts versus Morrisville State on Wednesday, Sept. 18, NAC-foe Maine Maritime Saturday, Sept. 21, Lycoming on Tuesday, Sept. 24, a NAC meeting with SUNY Canton Saturday, Sept. 28 and Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The Broncos continue the month of October with a road NAC contest at Maine Farmington on Saturday, Oct. 5, then a trip down the road to Sage on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Delhi then heads back home for a NAC weekend stretch, starting with Maine Presque Isle on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Husson on Sunday, Oct. 13. Their regular season ends with three straight away matches, beginning with NAC-opponent Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 19, Alfred University on Wednesday, Oct. 23 and NVU Lyndon on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Six teams qualify for the NAC Tournament, where the top two seeds earn a first-round bye and the remaining seeds face off in the conference quarterfinals the weekend of Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3. The winners of those games move on to the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 9 against the two top seeds, with the victors moving on to the conference championship on Sunday, Nov. 10. All dates and times are subject to change and will be updated accordingly.
