DELHI, N.Y. (December 19, 2018) – Eight members of the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team recently achieved further recognition by earning academic praise from the USCAA and ACAA. Sara Fischetti (Treadwell, NY / Delaware Academy), Katie Herba (Perth, NY / Broadalbin-Perth) and Stephanie Mason (Altamont, NY / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) were named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team and the ACAA All-Academic Team.

In addition, Samantha Friedman (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy), Tiffany Leigh (Centereach, NY / Centereach), Alexis Moore (Rochester, NY / Churchville-Chili Senior), Jessica Shultis (Rotterdam, NY / Schalmont), and Jacqueline Slentz (Edmeston, NY / Edmeston Central) all landed spots on the ACAA Honor Roll.

This marks Herba's second consecutive year earning USCAA and ACAA academic recognition, as she recently graduated with a 3.62 GPA, majoring in Business and Technology Management. It marked the first time for sophomores Fischetti and Mason, with Fischetti earning a 3.55 GPA in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Mason holding a 3.67 GPA, majoring in Veterinary Science. The three were recognized by both associations for having achieved grade point averages of 3.50 or greater.

Friedman, a junior, majors in Nursing with a 3.25 GPA. Leigh is a senior, possessing a 3.26 GPA in Event Management. Moore is a senior and has a 3.48 GPA as an Event Management major. Slentz is a junior, majoring in Nursing with a 3.41 GPA. Shultis, a junior and first-year player for the Broncos this season, owns a 3.39 GPA, majoring in Culinary Arts. The five were featured in a list of 46 student-athletes conference-wide that hold cumulative grade point averages of 3.25 to 3.49.

To be eligible for these honors, the student-athletes must have completed two semesters at their current institution and have participated in at least one contest during the current season.

In their first year as official NCAA Division III members, the Broncos opened the season with nine straight wins, and were ranked first nationally in the USCAA Division II Coaches Poll for four straight weeks. They went 5-3 in matches decided by one goal, including a 2-1 record in overtime contests. The team made it to the ACAA Tournament at Finlandia University (Mich.), where they fell in a tight semifinals match to Alfred State by a 2-1 score on Nov. 3. All told, under second-year head coach Lauren Mackay, the Broncos improved by eight games from last season, and logged their highest season win total since 2007.

The team featured three USCAA All-Americans in Herba, freshman defender Olivia Curry and freshman forward Kelsey Innes. Herba was named the ACAA's Player of the Year, while Innes was honored as the conference's Rookie of the Year. In addition, Curry and freshman goalkeeper Rachael Scoones received All-ACAA nods. Head coach Lauren Mackay earned Coach of the Year honors from both the USCAA and ACAA.
