Friedman, Innes Log Two-Goal Days as Delhi Outlasts Fisher in 6-4 Shootout

BOSTON, Mass. (October 28, 2018) – SUNY Delhi women's soccer ended their regular season in high-scoring fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Fisher in a 6-4 road contest. Samantha Friedman and Kelsey Innes each had two goals on the day, with Devin Baratto and Katie Herba adding scores to end a successful regular season at 11-3.

Having beaten SUNY Poly earlier this week, the Broncos enter the postseason on a two-match winning streak. Delhi had clinched a spot at next weekend's ACAA Tournament at Finlandia University (Mich.), where they will face Alfred State in the conference semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m.

The Falcons got the first score Sunday with Carla DaSilva's goal at 20:01. Friedman quickly answered for Delhi to tie the match at 21:49, then Baratto put the Broncos ahead at 30:51 off an assist from Innes. The Broncos did not trail for the rest of the contest, but even after Herba's shot from over 40 yard out gave Delhi a 3-1 lead at 33:28, Fisher did not go away quietly, scoring two straight goals to tie the match. The first came from Chelsea Browne at 35:19, then another from Ali Mosdale for the first second-half score at 54:24.

Innes answered the call for Delhi to give them the lead for good, gathering the go-ahead score for her first of the day at 55:23. Friedman added another score for the 5-3 lead at 77:52, but the Falcons again threatened when Browne scored 42 seconds later. But once again, Innes intervened to put the match out of reach, connecting for the final goal of the day at 85:08.

Goalkeeper Rachael Scoones totaled ten saves on the day to improve to 7-3 on the season. Innes bolstered her scoring totals to the top of Delhi's stat leaderboard with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists. Herba notched her totals up to 27 points on 11 goals and five assists, matching her season goals total from last season.

Through the regular season alone, head coach Lauren Mackay's team has amassed the program's highest season win total since 2007. Delhi opened the 2018 season with nine straight wins, tripling their 2017 win total, and were ranked first in the USCAA Division II Coaches Poll for four straight weeks.
