Women's Soccer Holds Down Top USCAA Spot for Third Straight Week

DELHI, N.Y. (October 12, 2018) – SUNY Delhi women's soccer remained in the top spot in this week's USCAA Division II Coaches Poll with 245 votes. The Broncos split a pair of matches last week, both determined by 1-0 scores. The ladies beat Albany College of Pharmacy last Thursday, and fell in overtime at SUNY ESF on a penalty kick for their first defeat of the season. Head coach Lauren Mackay's team stands at 9-1.

Katie Herba's 49th minute goal against ACPHS made the difference in Delhi's one-goal win. Freshman goalkeeper Rachael Scoones earned USCAA Goalie of the Week after combining for 15 saves over last week's two contests, backed by the defense allowing just 24 shots. Against SUNY ESF on Sunday, the Broncos kept the Mighty Oaks off the board for the first 98 minutes, with Scoones registering ten saves.

Herba leads the Broncos in the scoring category with 22 points on nine goals (third in ACAA) and four assists. Freshman Kelsey Innes is second with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. Scoones is 5-1 on the season in goal, tallying three shutouts and leading the ACAA with a .891 save percentage and 0.69 goals against average (five total).

Cincinnati Clermont took second in the poll with 242 votes, while NHTI ranked third at 236 votes, Southern Maine CC fourth at 229 votes and Central Penn fifth at 228 votes. The Broncos are 2-1 this season against USCAA-ranked opponents following meetings with Albany College of Pharmacy (sixth, 227 votes) SUNY ESF (seventh, 222 votes) and Penn State Hazleton (13th, 191 votes). In addition, Delhi is due to face two more currently-ranked USCAA opponents in Bryant & Stratton Syracuse and Valley Forge, who were ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, in the latest USCAA Division I rankings.

Coach Mackay and the Broncos are set to travel to Valley Forge for their next competition before returning home to square off against Sage on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Bryant & Stratton Syracuse on Saturday, Oct. 20.
