Scoones Receives Team's First USCAA Weekly Honor

NORFOLK, Va. (October, 10, 2018) – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced freshman Rachel Scoones (Waterville, NY / Waterville) as its Women's Soccer Goalie of the Week. This is Scoones' first USCAA weekly honor and second overall, having been earned ACAA accolades earlier this season. It the team's first USCAA honor of the season.

Scoones combined for 15 saves this week in Delhi's 1-0 win at Albany College of Pharmacy on Thursday and their tough-fought 1-0 overtime defeat at SUNY ESF Sunday. She and the defense posted a five-save performance to shut out the Panthers. The freshman then had ten saves to keep the Mighty Oaks off the board for the first 98 minutes, with a penalty-kick goal serving as the difference.

The Waterville, NY native has started in seven of the ten games, where she acquired 41 saves, five wins, and three shutouts. She holds a 5-1 record in goal this year, helping guide the Broncos to wins in their first nine games this year to stand at 9-1. Head coach Lauren Mackay's team was ranked first in each of the first two USCAA Division II Coaches Polls.

Scoones and the Broncos look to continue their strong season traveling to Phoenixville, Pa. to take on the Valley Forge Patriots Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m.
