SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 7, 2018) – It took ten matches and 38 days since the regular season began for the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team to be handed their first defeat of the 2018 season. In a defensive clash where Delhi remained true to form, only a penalty-kick goal served as the difference in the 1-0 overtime decision at SUNY ESF. The Broncos, who were ranked first in the latest USCAA Division II Coaches Poll, moved to 9-1 on the year; the Mighty Oaks were ranked eighth and are now 4-4. 

Despite SUNY ESF finishing with an 11-9 lead in shots, goalkeeper Rachael Sccones and the defense kept the Mighty Oaks off the board for two full halves and 98 minutes in all. The deciding score came in the 99th minute, when a Broncos foul prompted Alyssa Hughes with the game-winning opportunity.

Scoones gathered eight saves on the day as she moved to 5-1 on the year. Delhi tallied eight shots on goal to the Mighty Oaks' ten, with team-leading scorers Kate Herba and Kelsey Innes each leading with three shots on goal.

With five more regular-season matches, head coach Lauren Mackay's squad looks to continue their historic pace to secure an ACAA Tournament bid. Their next competition will be a road meeting at ACAA opponent Valley Forge on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 3:00 p.m.
