Herba's Score, Defense Difference in 1-0 Win at ACPHS

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 4, 2018) – The top-ranked and unbeaten SUNY Delhi women's soccer team faced an arduous test Thursday evening at Albany College of Pharmacy in order to improve to 9-0. An early second-half score by Katie Herba, followed by gritty defense made the difference as Delhi claimed a 1-0 win over the Panthers. The Broncos were ranked first in the latest USCAA Division II Coaches Poll, with Albany Pharmacy ranked sixth.

Both sides waged an equally competitive first half, with ACPHS holding a slim 7-6 lead in shots and both teams having three corner-kick chances. The balance shifted in the second half, where the Broncos outshot the Panthers, 17-6, with five corner kicks to Albany Pharmacy's none. It would be their first shot of the second half, though, that ultimately made the difference, with team-leading scorer Herba finding the back of the net off a combination feed from Kaitlin McGuiness and Brianna Laing at the 48:14 mark.

Goalkeeper Rachael Scoones and the Delhi defense made the lead stand, giving up just one shot on goal of the Panthers' six total shots in the latter half. That coupled with Scoones' four first-half saves gave the freshman five on the evening, improving her season record to 5-0.

Herba boosted her scoring totals to 22 points on nine goals and four assists. She ranks third in the ACAA in both points and goals.

Head coach Lauren Mackay's squad will venture to pursue their tenth straight win, as they head to eighth-ranked SUNY ESF on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
