DELHI, N.Y. (September 5, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team found victory in the form of a double-overtime comeback on Wednesday against Elmira. Behind late in the game, 1-0, the Broncos persevered and tied the game on an 84th-minute goal by Katie Herba. With a scoreless draw looming, Brianna Laing provided the game-winner in the 109th minute to give Delhi its first undefeated start through three matches since 2007 at 3-0.

Despite several great scoring chances, the Broncos found themselves behind for most of the match when the Soaring Eagles scored in the 13th minute. But great defense and five saves from goalie Rachael Scoones kept Delhi in the contest. That effort was finally reciprocated by the offense with full time approaching when Herba's third goal of the season sailed over 25 yards, passing the outstretched hands of goalie Gabe Carmona for the equalizer. Delhi attacked often across both halves of extra time, which paid off when Alexa Scaglione set Laing up at the top of the 18-yard mark for the sophomore transfer's timely first career goal.

Keeper Jessica Shultis earned the win for the Broncos after subbing in for Scoones in the 85th minute. The freshman improved to 2-0 on the year, tallying a pair of saves, including one in the second extra time period. Herba has now scored a goal in each of Delhi's first three matches, improving her team-best scoring total to seven points on three goals and one assist.

The Broncos outshot the Soaring Eagles by a 20-10 margin, and had eight corner-kick chances to Elmira's one. Of Delhi's nine goals through its first three matches, Wednesday's contest marked the team's first scores outside the first half.

Head coach Lauren Mackay's squad seeks to continue their best start under the second-year coach on Sunday when they travel to Buffalo to take on Villa Maria at 12:00 p.m.
