DELHI, N.Y. (September 3, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team began their home NCAA era on a glorious note on Sunday, using three first-half goals to carry towards a 3-2 home victory over Alfred State. Coupled with its season-opening win at Pratt Friday, Delhi is off to its first 2-0 start under second-year head coach Lauren Mackay, and first overall since 2016.

Prior to the match, SUNY Delhi President Michael Laliberte, Vice President for Student Life Tomas Aguirre and Director of Athletics Bob Backus joined the women's and men's soccer teams in a ceremonial ribbon cutting to celebrate the Broncos' first official home contests as NCAA Division III members. As of Saturday, the institution began its first year of its NCAA provisional membership after a successful exploratory year during the 2017-18 academic year.

After a scoreless 21 minutes to start the match, freshman Kelsey Innes got the Broncos' scoring started with a goal in the 22nd minute to draw first blood. Fellow newcomer Alexa Scaglione followed suit with a score in minute 26 for a 2-0 advantage, then team-leading scorer Katie Herba provided a strike two minutes later to give Delhi a 3-0 lead at halftime. Thanks to stellar defense and a five-save performance from freshman Rachael Scoones, the Broncos shut out Alfred State for the first 72 minutes. The Pioneers finally got on the board in minute 73 to cut Delhi's lead to two, and a late score with 12 seconds remaining was all the offense Alfred State could provide.

Scoones earned her first career win in her first start as a Bronco, playing all 90 minutes in net. Delhi held a slim 13-12 lead in shots and had three corner-kick opportunities to the Pioneers' two.

Coach Mackay and the Broncos look to keep their momentum going this Wednesday when they welcome Elmira for an afternoon contest on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
