Baratto Scores, Slentz Saves Nine in 4-1 Defeat at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. (September 1, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team opened the year on Friday evening at Alfred State. While the Broncos held an early lead and kept the Pioneers in-check for most of the first half, Alfred State rallied, using two quick and early second-half goals to help defeat the Broncos, 4-1.

SUNY Delhi held Alfred State scoreless for the first 44 minutes of the match. The Broncos jumped out in front when Devin Baratto delivered a score off a rebound from Katie Herba in the 24th minute to go up, 1-0. With eight  seconds remaining in the half, the Pioneers' Dannielle O'Buckley fired a long strike from the left side to tie the match, 1-1, at halftime.

Alfred State opened the second half with two quick scores. Darien Hooker and Brooke Geibel had goals in the 47th and 48th minute, respectively, to put the Pioneers ahead for good, 3-1. A 69th-minute goal from Julia Yanarella capped off the scoring.

Jacqueline Slentz provided a quality performance in goal for the Broncos, tallying nine saves. Alfred State's Allison Danielak had two saves. The Pioneers led, 24-4, in shots.
