Delhi Falls to Hot-Shooting SUNY ESF

DELHI, N.Y. (September 23, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team kicked off the college's annual Family Weekend with a home match against SUNY ESF. Despite a dozen saves from Jacqueline Slentz and trailing just 2-0 at halftime, the Mighty Oaks added on three more scores in the second half to hand Delhi a 5-0 defeat.

The Mighty Oaks got the early lead on a Shannon Gordinier goal in the ninth minute. SUNY ESF then took a 2-0 lead on a Madeline Eggenberger score in the 28th minute. Jessie Smith provided the Oaks' third score of the day in the 54th minute, followed by a Lauren Archer goal in minute 62. Megan Herbst provided the final goal in the 81st minute.

Delhi was outshot, 29-7, including a 17-4 disparity in shots on goal. Samantha Friedman, Katie Herba, Kimberly Jaquish and Paige Fairchilds each had a shot on goal for the Broncos. SUNY ESF was called for eight fouls to Delhi's four. Kiki Hilmer picked up the ESF win in goal, with Lauren Claeys coming in for nearly the last 20 minutes.
