Herba's Boot Provides Highlight in 2-1 Defeat to Cazenovia

DELHI, N.Y. (September 19, 2017) – Junior forward Katie Herba's highlight-reel goal in the second half against Cazenovia on Tuesday pulled Delhi to within one, but it would stand as the Broncos' lone goal in the team's 2-1 defeat. Despite outshooting the Wildcats, 19-6, including an 8-0 advantage in the second half, the Broncos fell to 3-5 on the year. Cazenovia climbed to 3-2.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead after Dominique Metoyer supplied the opening score in the eighth minute and Michaela Breeze tallying the second in minute 28. Delhi had a penalty-kick opportunity in the 37th minute, but Herba's shot sailed high over the net. Except for four yellow cards being given out, the match stayed quiet, until Herba launched a shot from just over the midfield line over the head of goalie Lauren Gee that cut Caz's lead to one at 2-1. Delhi looked to capitalize on the swing of momentum, but could not come up with the equalizer.

Jacqueline Slentz had three saves on the day, while Caz's Gee totaled eight. The Broncos finished ahead of the Wildcats, 9-5, in shots on goal, with Herba, Devin Baratto and Lenore Aponte each having two. Yellow cards were given out to Caz's Madison Adams and Delhi's Brianna Volans, Emily Guerra and Courtney Yando. Cazenovia was called on 15 fouls to Delhi's 13.
