Delhi Shines in 3-0 Win Over Villa Maria in NIAC Opener

DELHI, N.Y. (September 16, 2017) – A balmy Saturday afternoon was just what the Broncos needed to fire them up for their NIAC opener against Villa Maria, outshooting the Vikings 30-3 on their way to a 3-0 win. Liana Garry, Devin Baratto and Katie Herba provided each score to run the Broncos' record to 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in the NIAC. The Vikings now stand at 0-4 and 0-2 in the conference.

Herba, who now leads Delhi with 23 points (nine goals, five assists), assisted on the first two scores before scoring a goal of her own in the 83rd minute. Leading, 13-0, in shots in the first half, the Broncos held a 1-0 lead at halftime after Garry dribbled a shot past keeper Melyssa Olmstead in the 24th minute. The Broncos kept on rolling before Baratto's score in the 66th minute gave Delhi some breathing room. Herba's goal came off a free kick after Olmstead was called for kicking the ball outside the box.

Delhi finished with a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal and had eight corner kicks to the Vikings's zero. Goalie Jacqueline Slentz had one save to run her record to 3-3.

The Broncos' busy week takes one final turn at SUNY Canton on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This will be Delhi's fifth match in eight days.
