Broncos Fall to ACPHS in Overtime Battle

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 14, 2017) – A Stephanie Mason second-half goal gave the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team a 1-0 lead Thursday at Albany College of Pharmacy. And while the Broncos played tough to hold off undefeated ACPHS, the Panthers' Katie Benson provided not just the equalizer in the 75th minute, but the game-winner in extra time to hand Delhi a 2-1 overtime defeat. The match marked the Broncos' third contest in five days, as Delhi now stands at 2-3 on the year. ACPHS improved to 3-0.

After a scoreless first half, Mason got Delhi on the board in the 52nd minute after gathering a rebound off a saved shot from Katie Herba to take the 1-0 lead. The Broncos held the advantage for roughly the next 23 minutes, before Benson tied the match off a rebound from Erin Tersegno to even things up at 1-1. The tied score sent the Broncos into their first extra time since September 11, 2016. But unlike the previous time, where Delhi and SUNY ESF exhausted all 20 minutes for a 3-3 draw, Thursday's extra session didn't take long, as Benson delivered the golden goal, assisted again by Tersegno, just 1:10 into the period.

Jacqueline Slentz provided five saves for the Broncos, while Panthers' keeper Sally Slowinski saved two. ACPHS led, 16-12, in shots, and 7-3 in shots on goal. Herba led Delhi with six shots, and two shots on goal.
