Lauren McRoberts Announced as Next Head Women's Basketball Coach

DELHI, N.Y. (June 21, 2019) – SUNY Delhi Director of Athletics Bob Backus has announced the hiring of Lauren McRoberts as the college's new Women's Basketball Head Coach entering the 2019-20 season. McRoberts, a former NCAA Division I student-athlete at South Carolina Upstate, arrives to Delhi following a successful run as assistant coach at St. Lawrence University. She will be tasked with continuing the progress of the program beginning with year two of SUNY Delhi's transition to NCAA Division III.

"After a lengthy national search, we are very pleased to have Lauren McRoberts join the Broncos coaching staff as we progress into our NCAA Division III provisional year two," said Backus. "She comes highly recommended and this is an excellent opportunity for her first endeavor in women's collegiate head basketball coaching."

About Lauren McRoberts

"I would like to thank Bob Backus and SUNY Delhi for giving me the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program. I am excited to join the Broncos family and am honored to work at such a great institution alongside such passionate people. I greatly look forward to working with the team and for the opportunity to help advance the program forward."

McRoberts served the last two seasons as the assistant coach at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., while working on her Master's degree from the institution in Educational Leadership. Her time there saw the Saints total 25 wins and a Liberty League Tournament berth in 2017-18. That season also featured St. Lawrence producing the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and nationally the ninth-best rebounding team and 12-best defense in all NCAA Division III.

Originally from Carmel, Ind., McRoberts played four years at NCAA Division I University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. While with the Spartans, McRoberts helped the team to two A-Sun Tournament appearances and one Women's Basketball Invitational bid. She ranked second on the team in rebounding her first three seasons, averaging 5.0 boards per game and 566 total for her career. McRoberts graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies.

She returned to her home town upon graduation as the Special Education Instructor and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Carmel Clay Schools. She then moved on the very next year to become Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Franklin College, a NCAA Division III institution in Franklin, Ind. Her two years with the Grizzlies featured the ladies winning 33 games from 2014 to 2016, making the HCAC Tournament both seasons, including a semifinals appearance in 2016.
