Women Close '18-19 on Home Court Versus College of St. Joseph

DELHI, N.Y. (February 16, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team closed their 2018-19 chapter on Saturday hosting College of St. Joseph. The Broncos were beaten by the Fighting Saints, 89-60, to end the season with an 11-13 record.

Delhi was outscored, 76-35, through the first three quarters. CSJ led the entire game, going ahead, 21-11, after the first period, then outscoring the Broncos, 25-6, in the second to lead, 46-17, at halftime. The Fighting Saints followed up with a 30-point third quarter, where they held their largest lead of the game at 43 points at 71-28 with 2:53 left in the third. Delhi finished strong with 25 fourth-quarter points for their lone quarter scoring at least 20 points.

Kiera Holland led the women with 21 points and six assists off the bench, as well as corralling seven rebounds. Sam Acuna made a team-best three 3-pointers for 14 with eight rebounds, while Diana Echols had eight points with a team-high 11 boards. Brenna Gioffe finished with six points, as Katelyn Lewis totaled four points with five rebounds and Malorie Rutledge three points with five rebounds and five assists.

The Broncos finished at 34.4 percent for the day (21-for-61), making 5-of-15 threes, as the Fighting Saints made 39.8 percent (37-for-93) and 7-of-29, respectively. CSJ led, 60-42, in rebounds, and forced Delhi into tying a season high with 25 turnovers, including 18 in the first half, giving the visitors a 34-15 lead in points off turnovers.

The women's ballers concluded their first season under head coach Courtney Hoyt with several notable moments. They logged three ACAA wins against Pine Manor, Pratt and Valley Forge, and defeated stories foes Morrisville State and SUNY Canton. The Broncos were also 3-3 in games decided by two possessions or less.
