Salley, Holland Combine for 53 Points in 73-61 Win over Green Mountain

POULTNEY, Vt. (December 18, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team bookended a productive night at Green Mountain Monday with high-scoring first and fourth quarters to close out the 2018 leg of their season with a 73-61 win. Head coach Courtney Hoyt's team enters winter break with a 7-5 record.

The Broncos opened the game on a 13-0 run, and concluded the first quarter ahead, 25-9. They opened the second quarter just as strong, getting their lead up to a game-high 20 points at 29-9 with 8:36 to go before the half. Green Mountain, however, would outscore Delhi in both the second and third quarters to close the gap, and opened the fourth period on an 11-3 run to tie things up at 53-53. Delhi regained its hold on the lead by responding with eight straight points to go up, 61-53, with 6:12 to go. Though the Eagles utilized consecutive threes to tighten things up at 61-59, the Broncos maintained control when Samiaya Salley answered by drilling her fourth triple of the game that sparked a 12-2 Delhi run to close out the contest.

Salley notched her third 30-point game of the season with 33 points, connecting on 4-of-7 3-pointers, as well as her third double-double with ten rebounds. Kiera Holland garnered her fifth 20-point game of the year with 20 points. Sam Acuna flirted with a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, as did Katelyn Lewis with eight points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

The Broncos made 41.3 percent from the floor (26-for-63) and 6-of-16 from long range, while the Eagles shot 30.8 percent (24-for-78) and 9-of-35, respectively. Delhi also made more trips to the free throw line, making 15-of-27 to Green Mountain's 4-of-8. The women also held a 52-46 lead in rebounds, including 39 defensive boards to limit GMC's possessions.

Monday's win marked the fourth of a five-game road trip for the Broncos. They will close out this stretch in the New Year, trekking to take on College of St. Joseph on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 5:00 p.m. They will then return home to face ACAA-foe Pratt on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 4:00 p.m.
