Broncos Use Strong Fourth Quarter to Beat Albany Pharmacy

DELHI, N.Y. (December 2, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team overcame a sluggish start Sunday against Albany College of Pharmacy, overcoming a five-point deficit after three quarters to score 27 four-quarter points for a 65-57 victory. The Broncos captured their third straight win, while closing out a successful weekend homestand, which also featured an 80-76 win versus Valley Forge Saturday. Head coach Courtney Hoyt's team stands at 5-3.

The ladies pulled out the win, despite making 38.7 percent from the field (29-for-75), 1-for-13 on 3-pointers and 6-of-22 from the free throw line. However, Delhi never trailed by more than nine points on the day, and were behind just 27-22 at the half. Things turned around swiftly entering the final period, where the home team trailed, 43-38. Delhi worked its way into the Panthers' lead throughout the quarter, trailing by 53-50 with 3:19 remaining. That was when Delhi's lone 3-pointer of the day came at the most crucial time, as Samiaya Salley drained a triple to tie the game at 53-53. Following a missed three by ACPHS on the next possession, the Broncos made their way back down the court, where Kiera Holland netted a jumper to give the Broncos the lead for good, finishing the contest on a 15-4 run. All told, the women made 12-of-20 from the floor in the final period.

The Broncos stayed in the game by outrebounding the Panthers, 51-36, including a 22-6 advantage on offensive boards, which they used to complete a 15-5 lead in second-chance points. They also held a 48-32 lead in points in the paint, and forced ACPHS into 18 turnovers to reel in 18 points off turnovers. The Panthers made 40.7 percent from the field (22-of-54), 3-of-13 on threes and 10-of-16 on free throws.

Salley collected 21 points to lead all scorers for her fifth 20-point game of the season, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a game-best five assists. Holland charted 15 points with three rebounds, while Sam Acuna netted 14 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Diana Echols had seven points with 16 rebounds, as Katelyn Lewis totaled four points with nine rebounds.

Coach Hoyt's team now embarks on a five-game road trip, which will extend into the new year. It all starts on Tuesday when the Broncos travel to take on Clarks Summit for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
