Salley's Career Week Earns Her ACAA Player of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (February 20, 2018) – Sophomore guard Samiaya Salley's (Highland Falls, NY / James I. O'Neill) historic week was solidified Tuesday by her being named the ACAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Salley became SUNY Delhi's career leading scorer last week after scoring 38 points Thursday at Cazenovia, logging her first career triple-double in the process, followed by netting a career-high 42 points versus Central Penn Saturday. This is Salley's second ACAA weekly honor this season.

Just four days after becoming the second Bronco ever to reach 1,000 career points, Salley scored 38 points on the Wildcats Thursday to move into first all-time with 1,053 career points. Salley also collected her first career triple-double with 11 rebounds and ten assists. Needing 18 points to pass the previous mark of 1,033 set by Jennifer LePinnet-Clark (2002-04), the sophomore netted 21 of her points in the first half to break the record, making 5-of-6 3-pointers through the first two quarters. Salley ended the day shooting 13-for-27 from the floor, 6-for-8 from 3-point range and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

Salley was honored for her career accomplishment Saturday prior to the Broncos' regular season finale hosting Central Penn. With her family and even LePinnet-Clark on hand, the Highland Falls, NY native thrilled the home crowd with a career-best 42 points for her first-ever 40-point game. Salley split her point total evenly between each half, including 13 points in the first quarter and 12 in the fourth, while also tallying nine rebounds and six assists. With her total at 37 points late in the game, the sophomore made it an even 40 on a long-distance three to put the capper on an 86-68 rout of the Knights. She tacked on a pair of free throws to wrap up her day. She finished 13-for-22 from the field, 7-of-14 from behind the arc and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.
