Salley Breaks Career Scoring Record, Posts First Triple-Double at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (February 15, 2018) – For the second straight game, sophomore guard Samiaya Salley endeared herself into SUNY Delhi history Thursday night at Cazenovia. Not only did she have her first career triple-double with 38 points (one point shy of career high), 11 rebounds and ten assists, Salley became the Broncos' all-time leader with 1,053 career points, eclipsing the previous mark of 1,033 set by Jennifer LePinnet-Clark (2002-04). Despite Salley's heroics, however, the Broncos fell victim to a late Wildcats rally, sealed by a game-winning layup from Cassidy Marsh that broke a 104-104 tie with 19 seconds remaining for a 106-104 Caz win.

Thursday's contest came just four days after Salley scored her 1,000th career point at Villa Maria on Sunday, becoming just the second Bronco ever to do so. She also became the second SUNY Delhi women's baller to reach the four-digit mark in just two years. The sophomore, who finished 6-of-8 from 3-point range Thursday, broke the record during the first half, scoring 27 points through two quarters as Delhi took a 57-44 lead into halftime.

The Broncos stretched their lead to as much as 19 points twice in the third quarter, both coming on Kiera Holland baskets. The latter saw Delhi up, 66-47, with 7:40 left in the third. Caz was able to dwindle the lead to 84-78 by quarter's end, eventually tying the game at 102-102 on a pair of free throws by Kelli Shepardson. Skylar Girard then gave Caz a 104-102 lead with two shots from the line before Katie Herba knotted the score, also sinking two from the charity stripe with 1:03 to go. A pair of possession swaps followed, then came the go-ahead layup by Cassidy, prompting a Delhi timeout. A last-second jumper by Herba fell short of the mark.

Holland finished with 25 points, while Herba netted 17 points with seven rebounds. Camryn McDonald totaled eight points with 11 boards, while Diana Echols logged her second double-double of the season with ten markers and ten rebounds. Caz's Girard answered with 36 points, while three other Wildcats finished in double figures, including a double-double performance from Kelli Shepardson on 17 points and 13 boards. Danielle Caivana added 21 points.

SUNY Delhi shot 51.9 percent (40-for-77) from the field to Caz's 48.6 percent (35-for-72). Despite outrebounding the Wildcats, 48-37, and faring better from 3-point range, 9-for-15 to Caz's 13-for-27, the Broncos did not visit the free throw line as much as their opponents. While Delhi fared a good 15-for-21 from the line Thursday, Caz made 23-of-35, including 16-of-21 in the second half.

The Broncos close out the regular season hosting Central Penn on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. They will then travel back to Villa Maria for the NIAC Tournament, facing Maine Fort Kent in the first round on Friday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 p.m.
