BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 11, 2018) – Sophomore guard Samiaya Salley's quest for 1,000 career points came to an end Sunday at Villa Maria, as she hit the four-digit mark on the nose with a 3-pointer halfway through the second quarter. While the Broncos briefly celebrated Salley becoming the second player ever at Delhi to reach the milestone, they were quickly overwhelmed by a Vikings squad that responded by scoring 22 consecutive points on their way to handing the Broncos a 102-63 defeat.

SUNY Delhi, who entered the weekend ranked tenth in the USCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, now stand at 15-11 after Sunday's defeat and Saturday's loss to Alfred State. The Vikings, meanwhile, were ranked seventh. The Broncos have two more home regular-season games before heading back to Villa Maria for the NIAC Tournament on Feb. 23. They will travel to Cazenovia on Thursday, followed by a home meeting with Central Penn on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Salley entered Sunday's matchup needing 11 points to reach 1,000 points. She finished the day with a team-best 26 points with seven rebounds and five assists, giving her a career total of 1,015 points. The sophomore joined Jennifer LePinnet-Clark as the only two Lady Broncos to ever score 1,000 points, as well as doing so in just two years; LePinnet-Clark totaled 1,033 points from 2002-04.

Salley's record-setting 3-pointer also drew Delhi to within one of Villa Maria's lead at 33-32 after trailing, 30-21, at the end of the first quarter. The Vikings answered by holding the Broncos scoreless for the remainder of the first half and scoring 22 consecutive points over the second and third quarter. By the time Katie Herba's jumper ended Delhi's silence, the Broncos saw themselves behind, 55-34, with 8:13 to play in the third, which would be as close as they would come the rest of the way.

Kiera Holland finished with 17 points, while Camryn McDonald connected for seven points, 15 rebounds and six assists. Herba recorded eight points with five rebounds and six assists.

The Broncos shot 33.8 percent (24-for-71) to the Vikings' 50.6 percent (40-for-79). Villa held a 53-37 lead on the boards, as well as a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint and 21-0 in bench points.
