Women Provide Second-Half Surge, But Fall to Alfred State

DELHI, N.Y (January 21, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team wrapped up a busy three-game, five-day stretch Sunday hosting Alfred State. While the Broncos answered valiantly after being down by as much as 14 points, the women came up short in a 68-62 decision.

Freshman Camryn McDonald just missed out on her 15th double-double of the year, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Katie Herba did earn herself a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, while Samiaya Salley netted 17 points along with eight rebounds.

Delhi was hampered on the boards, 64-44, mostly due in part to Alfred State's leading scorer and rebounder Catherine Bialecki recording 21 points and 18 rebounds, including 16 defensive. The Broncos also shot 27.5 percent (22-for-80) to the Pioneers' 40.6 percent (28-for-69), but did hold leads in points off turnovers (19-10), second-chance points (17-13) and fastbreak points (15-10).

The Broncos' largest deficit came at 28-14 with 3:33 remaining in the first half, and trailed, 34-23, at intermission. Delhi took advantage of several Alfred State turnovers to draw to within five at 44-39 with 1:22 left in the third quarter. The Pioneers would string together an 8-2 run over the third and fourth quarter, leaving Delhi to get no closer than six points to close out the day.

Salley notched herself closer to the 1,000 career-point milestone, now totaling 866 points. The sophomore looks to join Jennifer LePinnet-Clark (2002-04) to become just the second Bronco ever to score 1,000 points, as well as reaching it in just two years.

SUNY Delhi is back out the door on Tuesday for a matchup at SUNY Canton at 5:00 p.m.
