Broncos Shoot Well, but Outdone from Downtown in 98-91 Defeat to CSJ

POULTNEY, Vt. (January 10, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team endured their first defeat of 2018 and just their fifth loss overall on Wednesday, falling at St. Joseph by a 98-91 score. While the Broncos shot better from the floor, including a 25-point, 15-rebound showing from Camryn McDonald and 28 points from Samiaya Salley, Delhi was outshot from 3-point range, with CSJ making 14 triples to Delhi's five.

The game was played at Green Mountain College due to unforeseen circumstances causing St. Joseph's gym to be unplayable. Delhi is now 11-5 on the year, with its next game at home against NHTI on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Salley netted four of the Broncos' 3-pointers, while also notching five rebounds and five assists. McDonald recorded her 11th double-double of the season, as well as dishing out six assists. Kiera Holland had 17 points and five assists, while Katie Herba connected for 10 points and grabbed seven boards. Erica Cornmire finished with five points and seven rebounds of her own.

CSJ countered with three 24-point performances from Dymond Collins, NaKeeya Goodman-Boddie and Arielys Rodriguez. Rodriguez made five threes and Goodman-Boddie hit four triples and dished out ten assists for a double-double.

Delhi was 47.5 percent from the field (38-for-80) to CSJ's 42.4 percent (36-for-85), and made 10-of-16 free throws to the Fighting Saints' 12-of-22. The Broncos held a slim 50-49 lead on rebounds and led, 56-40, in points in the paint. CSJ did, however, collect 18 offensive boards to Delhi's 13, and held a 19-6 lead in second chance points and led, 48-6, in bench points.

After several lead changes in the first quarter, the Fighting Saints maintained a slight advantage through the middle quarters, but not without Delhi intervening to occasionally tie the game down the stretch. The Broncos would take a brief 75-73 lead in the fourth quarter on a Salley layup with 7:33 to go, only to see CSJ answer with seven straight points to regain the lead for good, even stretching its lead to as much as ten points in the waning minutes.
