SUNY Delhi Defeats Defending National Champs

SUNY Delhi traveled to Vermont Tuesday evening to take on defending National Champs, The College of Saint Joseph's, in their second match-up of the season. In their first match-up on November 30, 2016, the Broncos fell 76-68. In November, the Broncos came out to a slow start in the first period, putting up only 8 points to St. Joseph's 24. Furthermore, the Broncos allowed four Saints to finish in double figures whereas only two Broncos were able to find double digit offensive success. In an almost perfect reversal Tuesday evening, the Broncos came out firing putting up 19 points to St. Joseph's 11 in the first period. Five Broncos put up double figures for SUNY Delhi, led by Diana Echols and Sam Acuna with 14 points a piece. Furthermore, Echols pulled in 14 rebounds and finished the game with a double-double. A second Bronco also finished the game with a double-double for SUNY Delhi, as Samantha St. Denis put away 11 points and pulled in 12 rebounds. Along with Echols and St. Denis, Katie Herba helped the Broncos dominate the boards, leading SUNY Delhi with 15 rebounds. In addition, Britney Toliver and Samiaya Salley scored 12 points a piece for SUNY Delhi. Only two Saints were able to find double digit scoring the St. Joseph's. In an only one point difference from their first match-up, the Broncos would finish the game on top this time, 76-69. The Broncos will celebrate senior day this Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, at 2pm as they face off against Central Penn. The Broncos defeated Central Penn on November 6, 2016, 79-57.
