CORTLAND, N.Y. (May 16, 2019) – Though two landmark running careers came to an end for SUNY Delhi track and field Wednesday evening, seniors Kobie Lane and Nicholas Arnecke added a satisfying final chapter as Broncos on the grand stage of the AARTFC Championships at SUNY Cortland. Lane and Arnecke each ran the 5K alongside teammate Abshir Yerow, where Lane, Yerow and Arnecke swept the top three respective spots. Arnecke boldly followed that up an hour later by taking third in the 10K. These efforts put the men in second on the team leaderboard after day one with 30 points.
Lane took the winning 5K spot with a sub-15 time of 14:53.18. Yerow finished second just at the 15-minute mark at 15:00.89, while Arnecke placed third right behind him at 15:01.22. Arnecke then took on the 10K, where the Edmeston, NY native earned bronze yet again with a time of 32:18.22.
Sophomore jumper Alex Irving opened Delhi's day at regionals in the triple jump, where the Binghamton, NY native set a new PR at 13.97m.
Lane's 5K performance capped off an extraordinary outdoor season, where the senior previously broke the school 5K record a few weeks ago at Penn Relays with a time of 14:37.71. The Port Jervis, NY native ends his track and field career also holding both the indoor and outdoor school record in the 3K (8:34.93 indoor, 8:44.77 outdoor), as well as earning NAIA Indoor All-American honors in 2018 in the 3K. He was a two-time NAC outdoor champion in the 1500 meters, including breaking the meet record in April with a time of 14:06.03, and was named NAC Track Athlete of the Year.
Arnecke leaves SUNY Delhi as the school outdoor record holder in the 10K with a time of 30:44.62, which he set at last year's Penn Relays. He also holds the indoor school standard in the 5K at 14:59.92, leading to an appearance at the 2018 NAIA Indoor Championships. The soon-to-be graduate also finishes with numerous academic honors, receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America praise in 2018, and recently being named the NAC's Senior Scholar Athlete.
Day two of the AARTFC Championships continues all day Thursday, where the Broncos have competitors in the women's shot put, men's high jump and triple jump, women's 4x100 and women's 200 meters.
