WATERVILLE, Me. (May 9, 2019) – A conference championship outdoor season for the SUNY Delhi women's track and field team produced 14 NAC titles, 21 All-NAC selections, and three major award winners. The freshmen represented Delhi for the major awards, as runner Katerina Salcedo (Binghamton, NY / Binghamton) was named the NAC Track Athlete of the Year, while multi-athlete Aliyah McLean (Bronx, NY / DeWitt Clinton) earned NAC Rookie of the Year. Head coach Robb Munro swept the NAC Coach of the Year honors, having also earned the award on the men's side.
Junior Ashley Magnifico (Bayport, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) earned recognition for the Broncos on the NAC Women's Track & Field Sportsmanship Team. This honor is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the track and field culture and environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that go beyond the competition rules and etiquette.
In his seventh year heading the Broncos, Coach Munro guided both his women and men to not just their first NAC championship in their first official year as conference members, but also sweeping the combined three-conference meet that included the GNAC and NECC. The women's Additionally, Broncos were represented in each of the five Athlete of the Week honors, earning a total of nine weekly awards throughout the season.
Salcedo earned Rookie of the Week honors during four of the five weeks that the award was given this spring, and claimed Track Athlete of the Week honors in the final week leading into the championship meet where she won five events. During the season, she also broke the SUNY Delhi school record in the 800 meter (2:18.15). Salcedo won the NAC individual titles in the 400 meter (1:00.97), 800 meter (2:26.63), and 1500 meter (5:08.74), and also anchored the winning 4x800-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams that both set new NAC Championship meet records. Her performance helped Delhi win the NAC Championship and also the Combined Team Championship titles at the three-conference event.
McLean finished in the top four in each of her events at the NAC Championship, including two golden performances. She won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.09. Transitioning from the track to the field, McLean also claimed top honors with a 1.5 meter high jump. She finished fourth in both the pole vault and the long jump with marks of 2.45 meters and 4.56 meters, respectively. Her performance was key to the Broncos NAC Championship and Combined Team Championship titles.
SUNY Delhi head coach Robb Munro is the 2019 NAC Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year. The Broncos won the 2019 NAC Championship and also the Combined Team title at the three-conference championship meet. Delhi won fourteen events, including all three relays in meet record times. Twenty-one women earned All-Conference honors with first or second place finishes.; and freshman Katerina Salcedo and Aliyah McLean earned major conference awards in the Track Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
