Echols, Salcedo, Yerow Claim NAC Weekly Honors

WATERVILLE, Me. (April 10, 2019) – Three Broncos made this week's list of NAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week following SUNY Delhi's phenomenal weekend between the TCNJ Invitational and Princeton University's Sam Howell Invite. Delhi has now claimed eight total NAC weekly honors through the conference's first two editions of awards, with two earning consecutive weekly praise.

Head coach Robb Munro's team traveled down to central New Jersey to take on TCNJ Friday and Saturday, with three men's distance runners moving on to Princeton Saturday evening to run the 5K and 10K. All told, the Broncos set 19 new lifetime bests, two new women's school records and three AARTFC qualifiers. This week's NAC recipients were as follows:

Diana Echols (Ellenville, NY / Ellenville)

Women's Field Athlete of the Week

  • Shattered her own school record in the hammer throw with a new NAC-leading performance of 41.94m for fifth place at TCNJ.
  • Also threw the shot put 11.0 meters, less than half a meter short of her NAC-leading mark and good enough for 11th place.
  • Currently holds the top spot in the USCAA in both the shot put and hammer throw.
  • Second straight NAC weekly honor.

Katerina Salcedo (Binghamton, NY / Binghamton)

Women's Rookie of the Week

  • Broke the school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.15, setting a new top NAC time in the process.
  • Currently ranked first in the USCAA and 39th in all of NCAA Division III with this time.
  • Also ran on the second-place 4x100 relay team that finished with a USCAA-leading time of 50.54.
  • Now holds both the school indoor and outdoor 800m record.
  • Second straight NAC weekly honor.
  • Qualified for AARTFC Championships in the 800 meters and the 4x100.

Abshir Yerow (Syracuse, NY / Nottingham)

Men's Rookie of the Week

  • Ran the 10,000 meters at Princeton, finishing seventh with a NAC-leading time of 31:44.94, a new lifetime best by 27-seconds after improving by over a minute two weeks ago.
  • Four of the six competitors who finished ahead of Yerow were NCAA Division I runners from Princeton, Dartmouth and UAlbany.
  • Holds the top time in the USCAA nationwide.
  • Qualified for AARTFC Championships in the 10K.

The Broncos pick things up this Saturday when they host the Bronco Classic, starting at 10:00 a.m.
