Butler, Salcedo Make Podium to Highlight AARTFC Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. (March 2, 2019) – Jumper Glenn Butler Jr. and runner Katerina Salcedo, both relative newcomers, posted podium finishes to highlight the SUNY Delhi track and field team's weekend at the AARTFC Championships to close out their indoor season. A total of ten Broncos qualified and competed at Ithaca College over the course of Friday and Saturday's competition that brought together the best teams in the region. Teams included the host Ithaca Bombers, Brockport, Geneseo, RIT, TCNJ and Rowan.

Salcedo, a freshman, enjoyed a great fall running cross country, and carried it over to an even greater indoor track season. She finished seventh at Saturday's 800 meters, setting a new personal best with a time of 2:20.44. Butler, a sophomore, joined the track and field team on jumps during last year's outdoor season. Despite only competing in Delhi's final three indoor meets this year, Butler set new PR's on his way to making regionals. He finished sixth on Saturday with a height of 1.96m.

Senior runner Kobie Lane, a 3K All-American last year, finished ninth in the 3K with a time of 8:44.91. Fellow distance men Nicholas Arnecke and Abshir Yerow competed in the 5K, where Arnecke placed 13th with a time of 15:28.51 and Yerow 17th at 15:37.84. Freshman hurdler Humphrey Banful, who earned a regional bid for the 60-meter hurdles in the Broncos' first meet of the season at the NYC Armory, matched that time on Saturday, finishing 12th in the preliminaries at 8.64.

Thrower Diana Echols, who made AARTFC's after breaking the school weight throw record last weekend (14.09m), threw for 17th place on Saturday with a measurement of 14.05m. The relay team of Salcedo, Jaylynn Sheppard, Ashley Magnifico and Erica Cornmire took 17th in the 4x200 at 1:51.59.

Head coach Robb Munro's team begin their outdoor season later this month, with their first meet set for Goucher on Saturday, Mar. 23.
