ITHACA, N.Y. (February 28, 2019) – Head coach Robb Munro and ten of his SUNY Delhi indoor track and field athletes are making final preparations to compete at their first All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships this weekend at Ithaca College. The Broncos enjoyed a spectacular indoor season, their first as NCAA Division III members, qualifying for eight events. The competition takes place from Friday, Mar. 1 to Saturday, Mar. 2.

"Our athletes have responded well to the big stage in the past and are excited for the opportunity to compete against the very best in the region," said Munro.

Last year's national qualifiers in runners Nicholas Arnecke and Kobie Lane will run the 5K and 3K, respectively, after both qualified during their stay at Boston University on Feb. 9. The two seasoned distance runners competed in those same events last year at the NAIA National Championships. Lane earned All-American after placing sixth with a time of 8:38.43, as Arnecke took 12th with a time of 15:17.83. Teammate Abshir Yerow also made the cut for the 5K alongside Arnecke at Boston University.

Thrower Diana Echols went the school record route to earn her stay at Ithaca, breaking her own record in the weight throw by over half a meter when she threw for 14.09m at the New York City Armory last weekend. Freshman runner Katerina Salcedo will compete in two events. She qualified for the 800 meters after winning the race at Utica College on Dec. 8, and will run alongside Erica Cornmire, Ashley Magnifico and Jaylynn Sheppard in the 4x200.

Despite competing in just the final three meets of the season, sophomore Glenn Butler Jr. wasted no time qualifying for the high jump. He cleared 1.95m to make the cut in his second competition at Cornell on Feb. 16, then bested even that with a PR of 2.00m the next weekend at the New York City Armory. Freshman Humphrey Banful will be the first Bronco to be seen at AARTFC's when he competes in the 60-meter hurdles Friday evening. He got to the championships after completing a time of 8.64 at Utica College back in December.
