Holliday Sets Record in Discus, Tallies Three of Delhi's Nine Wins at Bronco Classic

DELHI, N.Y. (April 14, 2018) – For several hours Saturday, SUNY Delhi became the epicenter of the New York State college track and field world as a record turnout attended the annual Bronco Classic. While welcoming the likes of schools such as SUNY Brockport, Union and Division II teams like Le Moyne and College of Saint Rose, the Broncos not only played gracious hosts, but played to win.

At day's end, the Broncos totaled nine wins. Hurler Brandon Holliday took center stage Saturday with an astounding three throwing-event wins in the discus, shot put and hammer throw. The sophomore shattered the discus school record with 49.29m, breaking the previous record of 46.82 set by Gabe Fletcher in 2001. Holliday went on to win the shot put at 13.78m and the hammer at 46.06m.

Delhi got four more wins in the field, with Matthew Scavetta winning the pole vault with a height of 4.15m, Glenn Butler taking first in the long jump at 6.38m, and Ashanti Mirville and Mike Beebe winning the women's and men's high jump. Mirville posted a height of 1.50m, while Beebe cleared a height of 1.95m. Also in the high jump, Susan Hoskins took second with 1.45m, while Butler placed third with a height of 1.85m.

On the track, distance continued their dominance, particularly Kobie Lane winning the 1500m with a new personal best of 4:01.95. Lucas Reilly finished fourth in that same event with 4:11.27. Nicholas Arnecke added to the win column, finishing first in the 5K with a time of 15:17.28.

Cheyenne Weaver also set an outdoor school record when she took second in the shot put with a measurement of 11.56m. Ian Luhmann earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11:21) and 200-meter dash (22.62). Madeeah Oranchak took a trio of individual third-place marks in the 100-meter dash (12.54), 200-meter dash (25.99) and long jump (4.88m), with her 100 mark setting a new FAT record. Troy Dickson placed third in both the long jump (6.20m) and triple jump (12.82m), while Wesley Cruz finished third in the 3K steeplechase at 10:13.98.

Finally, both the women and men's 4x400 team earned third-place finishes. The women's foursome of Ashley Magnifico, Hoskins, Oranchak and Arielle Moheimani clocked in at 4:26.84, while the men's team of Esdras Charles, Keyshawn Clark-Wells, Sean Andrews and Mike Moran timed in a mark of 3:32.75.

Coach Robb Munro's team now has a week to rest up before embarking to next weekend's two-day SUNY Cortland Classic. The Saturday portion will begin at 9:30 a.m., while Sunday's starts at 10:00 a.m.
