Arnecke Shatters School 5K Record, Dickson Posts PR in Triple Jump at Ramapo Season Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y (January 20, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi track and field team traveled Friday to the prestigious New York City Armory for the Ramapo Season Opener. The competition featured teams such as NCAA Division I NJIT and Monmouth, as well as NCAA Division II Bloomfield and LIU Post.

The Broncos celebrated a big win early in the day when Nicholas Arnecke set a new school record in the 5000-meter run, placing first at 14:59.92. Beating the previous record of 15:17.1 set by Jeremy Cornue in 2000, he became the first indoor Delhi runner to break the 15-minute mark, and in the process locked up a NAIA B qualifying spot. Arnecke was accompanied by Kobie Lane finishing third (15:17.49) and Messler taking fourth (15:48.63).

In the field, Troy Dickson did some record setting of his own. The sophomore set a new personal best in the triple jump, finishing second with a measurement of 13.87m. Brandon Holliday competed in the weight throw and shot put, taking sixth (13.65m) and seventh (13.18m), respectively. Matthew Scavetta took eighth place in the pole vault with a height of 4.10m.

The women's 4x400 squad of Arielle Moheimani, Nikita Hall, Jaylynn Sheppard, Ashley Magnifico led the girls by finishing 13th with a time of 4:32.8. The men's 4x400 team of Connor Adkins, Sean Andrews, Esdras Charles and Keyshawn Clark-Wells finished first in their heat and 12th overall with a mark of 3:34.30.
