Distance and Jumps Lead Men, Echols and Relay Lead Women

The Men's and Women's Track and Field teams traveled to Ramapo College this weekend.  The Men's team was led by the distance runenrs and jumpers, while the women were led by five freshman.

The action started Friday night with the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races.  In the 5,000 meters, senior Jack Hillenbrand and freshman Jon Messler swept first and second place with respective times of 15:39.57 and 15:41.51.  Sophomore Andrew Davis followed that with a terrific debut in the 10,000 meters, placing second overall with a time of 33:04.93.  For the women, freshman Diana Echols scored points in the hammer throw.  Her mark of 32.73 meters was good for a seventh place finish.

The team returned to Ramapo Saturday morning.  Starting the day off was the women's 400 meter relay team made up of freshman Ashley Magnifico, Madeeah Oranchak, Nikita Hall and Erica Cornmire. The team ran 52.44 seconds which was good for fifth place in the meet.  The men were led by high jumpers Mike Beebe and Brian McLeod.  Both jumpers cleared a height of 1.95 meters (6'2.75"). Beebe won the competition on the tiebreaker criteria and McLeod tied for second.  The men also picked up points from sophomore Ricardo Castello who placed 5th in the 400 meters running a time of 51.40.

The team will host their annual Bronco Classic on campus Wednesday and travel to The College of New Jersey on Saturday.
