The Track and Field teams traveled to Staten Island, NY for the Gotham Cup Friday.  The meet provided very high level competition with many elite athletes and division I programs.  The competition brought the best out in many performances and for the third and fourth times in three meets this indoor season, records have changed hands.

The meet started with sophomore Kobie Lane breaking the school record in the 3,000 meter run.  His time of 8:34.93 broke the old mark set by Justin Wood in back in 2003 when he ran 8:38.71.  Wood now coaches at Stevens Institute of Technology and was at the meet to see the race.  Lane joins Wood as the only two athletes to break 8:40 in the 3,000 meters in school history.

The second record to fall came in the men's long jump as senior Keimon Barrow reclaimed the record from teammate Doug Williams.  Barrow first set the mark as a sophomore only to see Williams break it last year in his freshman season.  Barrow now holds the indoor school records in the long jump, triple jump and high jump as well as the outdoor record in the triple jump.  Williams mark of 6.87m fell on the first jump when Barrow went 6.88m.  In the final round, Barrow added 10 centimeters more hitting 6.98m.  Barrow also picked up the only event win of the evening for the Broncos as he won the high jump with a clearance of 2.04m.

The Bronco distance runners continued to run well in addition to Lane.  Senior Jack Hillenbrand ran 15:19.29 in the 5,000 meters missing the school record by just under two seconds for the second weekend in a row, but did shave a little time off the #2 performance in school history.  Sophomore Nicholas Arnecke ran an indoor best 5,000 meters of 15:55.18, dropping a whopping 61 seconds off his previous mark.  Freshman Lucas Reilly ran 9:23.55 in the 3,000 meter run, good for a 17 second personal best.  Finally, sophomore Andrew Davis and freshman Jon Messler ran the mile in 4:35.08 and 4:35.28 respectively.

The women's team also saw many season/personal best performances.  Leading the way was freshman Madeeah Oranchak who placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.50m and added a 10.58m triple jump, both indoor personal bests.  Freshman Nikita Hall and Ashley Magnifico both turned in season best times in the 200 meters as did sophomore Tracy Savage in the 60 meter dash and freshman Susan Hoskins in the 60 meter hurdles.

The students begin classes again this week and the whole team will travel to Utica College next Saturday for the first full squad competition of the second semester.
