Briggs, Williams and Barrow Break Records Again!

The SUNY Delhi Track and Field teams had a great showing at St. John's University Saturday in the Tom Farrell Classic.  The end result was two school records and three meet records.

Sophomore Walter Briggs started the day off for the Broncos in the 400 meter hurdles.  Briggs, the defending National Champion in the event missed the school record by 0.06 seconds two weks ago at Albany and was determined to get it this time.  He finished the race in a new meet and school record time of 53.11 seconds which eclipsed the old school record which was a converted hand time of 53.14.

Not to be outdone, freshman Doug Williams added to his own school record in the long jump.  His winning leap of 7.23 meters (23' 8.75") was also a new meet record and added four centimeters to his school record from a meet three weeks ago.  Williams also ran a 22.23 second time in the 200 meters to place eleventh overall in that event.

Junior Keimon Barrow started his day in the triple jump.  His first trip down the runway resulted in a mark of 15.26 meters which shattered the meet record and missed his school record from two weeks ago by only two centimeters.  He then placed second overall in the high jump with a clearnace of 2.07 meters (6' 9.5").  After passing at 2.10, he failed to convert at 2.13 meters (6' 11.75").

The men's 4x400 relay also placed second overall with a time of 3:20.95 on the strength of a blistering 47.6 second split from Briggs.  The other members of the relay were Stephon John (50.5), Kevin Williams (51.5) and Doug Williams (51.1).

Leading the way for the women's team was sophomore Mary Pham who placed eighth overall in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.48 seconds.  Other personal bests were recorded by freshman Rainey Cerqua (2:44.73) and frehman Elise McIntyre (2:50.18) in the 800 meter race.

The teams will wrap up their season with one more meet next weekend at St. John Fisher.
