The SUNY Delhi Track and Field team traveled to Cornell University for the Kane Invitational this weekend.  The team had many strong early season performances.

Leading the way for the men was junior jumper Keimon Barrow. Barrow placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 2.04m (6' 8.25").  He then added an eighth place finish in his first long jump competition of the year with a mark of 6.72m (22' 00.75").  Alongside Barrow in the high jump was junior Brian McLeod who placed fourth with a clearance of 1.89m (6' 2.25")

The other top five finish for the men was the 1600-meter relay team of Ricardo Castello, Antonio Gomes, Kevin Williams, and Walter Briggs. The team finished with a time of 3:26.35 to place second, just 0.04 seconds behind Cornell.  Sophomore Walter Briggs ran a 49.9 second split on the anchor to try to catch the Cornell team that held a two second lead when he took the baton.  On the final straightaway, he closed a large gap and just ran out of room.

Leading the women were freshman Khiere Ashley and Kelcey Watson.  Ashley placed fourth overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.68 which is a season best for her.  Watson cleared 3.00 (9' 10") meters in the pole vault, then passed a height to move to 3.30 meters in an attempt to break her own school record of 3.20 meters.  She made three good attempts at the new record but was just unable to convert it.  Watson finished eighth in the event.

The team will travel to Ithaca College for the Bomber Invitational next weekend.
